Meet Professor Putsis

Dr. William (“Bill”) Putsis is Emeritus Professor of Marketing, Economics, and Business Strategy at the Kenan-Flagler Business School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is Faculty Director and teaches on Executive Programs at the Yale School of Management.

He is on the leadership team of Knapp Capital Management, an innovative Commercial Real Estate firm focused on large scale development projects and CEO of Chestnut Hill Associates, a strategy consulting firm he founded in 1995. 

​

He has worked with companies throughout the world, most recently developing strategies in China and Europe as well as the United States. His consulting clients have included companies of all sizes such as the Boeing Company, BASF, SAS, Owens Corning, John Deere, Verizon, Textron, Baker Hughes, Lincoln Industries, World Kitchen, The Wercs, Globe Union, Aviall, Insitu, Underwriter’s Laboratory, Knauf, MagniX and many others.

Specializing in all aspects of business strategy, he has also published over 30 scholarly articles in top peer-reviewed academic journals and is the author of three books, Scarlett’s Revenge: Business Strategy for a Disruptive World (2025), The Carrot and the Stick: Leveraging Strategic Control for Growth (2020) and Compete Smarter, Not Harder (2014).
